AccsMap
AccsMap is a map-based road casualty analysis system developed specifically for the UK. It is a comprehensive input, reporting, analysis and validation system for road accidents, enabling data to be viewed and interrogated on a map background. AccsMap is able to provide full STATS 21 validation with Department for Transport (DfT) exports and the justification of safety camera sites.
INTERROGATION TOOLS
- Querying facilities for selective analysis of accident data
- Comprehensive range of analytical and reporting tools
- Overview facility to look at the whole area at once
DATA INPUT AND VALIDATION
- Validation of collision data in accordance with STATS 21 and DfT export
- Clear and easy to use to simplify input of new accident data
- Multi-level security to allow appropriate access to unvalidated accident records
COLLISION ANALYSIS
- Full or summary details on individual collisions or clusters are accessed at the click of a mouse
- Interactive Cluster and Route analysis of user-defined selections of collision records
- Before and after monitoring with statistical analyses of predefined areas and camera sites
- Regular enhancements to manage changes brought about by quality reviews and other DfT requirements

ACCSMAP – FEATURES IN DETAIL
Rapid access to data
AccsMap comes with your own customised loading program, so that new data can be loaded for use as soon as it is received. The system includes buildings and street gazetteers and a link to OS Address Point, as well as an in-built search facility to find particular collisions, clusters or areas to ensure a rapid response to accident queries.
Full or summary details on individual collisions or clusters are called up at the click of a mouse. In addition to STATS 19 data, information and case records can be appended. AccsMap is modified to reflect changes brought about by DfT Quinquennial Reviews.
Selective querying of accident database
Flexible querying enables accident searches to be fine-tuned through a number of stages to meet very specific requirements. Detailed queries may be stored for repeated use as a single selection, providing time savings and consistency in reporting.
AccsMap was built specifically to deal with the complexities of STATS 19 accident data. It helps users deal easily with the accident-vehicle-casualty structure and permits querying at each of these levels.
Geographical distribution of accidents at a glance
The combination of query tools and integrated mapping enables you to see at a glance where particular types of collisions are happening. Mass action, enforcement or education programmes can then be planned accordingly. At a more detailed level, it is possible to distinguish between accidents on individual junction approaches, enabling remedial measures to be precisely targeted.
Before and after monitoring
The accident numbers and rates before and after implementation of remedial or other measures can be reported for individual sites, or groups of similar sites. Average accidents and casualties for groups of sites are calculated and reported, along with the statistical significance of any change in accidents observed following intervention. Where traffic flows are known, AccsMap will calculate accident rates per million vehicle movements.
Specialist module for safety camera sites
The safety camera module enables you to map the location of camera sites, check their suitability against published criteria, and automatically produce the returns to update the Department for Transport’s Safety Cameras Data Collection Tool. Other features include recording of officer time spent on site and the number of notices issued.
Optional input and validation module
Designed for those who act as DfT local processing authorities and input data direct from paper forms. Pull-down lists and easy placing of new accidents on the map simplify data input, while colour coding distinguishes between accidents at different stages of validation. AccsMap offers full STATS 21 validation, as well as many additional checks, and enables unvalidated accidents to be viewed and processed separately before being made available to other users. Data export formats include DfT and Access tables.
Open systems
AccsMap has facilities to connect to other systems and to link to external data sources. It is a member of the TraffMap suite of traffic engineering systems that enable many types of information to be viewed simultaneously on the same base map. Base mapping may be read from most GIS servers without replication or conversion. Data import via a variety of commonly used formats allows collision data to be passed between authorities.
Collision records can be exported to a variety of formats including ESRI Shapefiles, DXF, DWG and Access tables to make them available to users of most other popular mapping systems. Tabulated data may be exported to Excel spreadsheets for graphical presentation, while text or map extracts can be directly transferred to Word or other word processing packages for incorporation into committee or other reports.
Accident data can reside on an Oracle database if required.
