LineMap
LineMap is a major breakthrough in productivity for traffic and highway engineers designing or maintaining road markings. It combines the power of CAD with the simplicity of word processing, to provide a fast and accurate design tool with the option to build up inventory and maintenance records for a whole authority.
All road markings contained in the latest TSRGD (signs regulations) can be placed, including complicated zig-zags for school entrances and pedestrian crossings. The resulting lines will automatically follow the curvature of the road or any other guide line.
FEATURES
- Contains all TSRGD 2016 and pedestrian crossing markings and permitted variants
- Applies the correct rules for markings curving around corners
- Builds a permanent record of markings as they are drawn
- A single tool for generating both outline schemes and detailed design
- Markings inventory is kept up-to-date automatically
- Bills of quantities by measured area or length
BENEFITS
- Saves time on both design work and record keeping
- Unprecedented accuracy even at large scales
- Flexible and simple to use with minimal training
- Complete record of road markings for maintenance and reinstatement work
- Avoids the need to measure quantities on-site

LINEMAP – FEATURES IN DETAIL
Markings made easy
LineMap starts with a base plan of the highway layout, derived from either the Ordnance Survey mapping (MasterMap™) or from importing a CAD drawing. After selecting the required marking from a list of all those in the TSRGD and identifying the map feature to follow (e.g. a kerb line), clicking on the start and end points, the marking is painted. Other drawing tools are available to paint lines that do not follow road features. Supplementary information on each marking from the TSRGD is available within LineMap when needed.
Once road markings have been generated quantities may be easily taken and used in bills and schedules.
Schemes and projects
Proposed markings may be kept in separate schemes, so they are not confused with the existing layout. Each scheme may be printed and exported separately. For those working on schemes for multiple clients, separate projects can be set up for the management of each discrete area.
Modular structure
LineMap is available as a stand-alone design tool for individual projects. Alternatively, it may be integrated into the TraffMap system to provide an area-wide record of all markings. In particular it has an active link with the ParkMap system so that the markings are automatically generated as the order information is entered.
Markings inventory
When used as part of TraffMap for a whole area, LineMap will keep all the records necessary for legal, traffic engineering and maintenance purposes. Designs for new schemes automatically update the main inventory once a completion date is given.
LineMap is supplied ready to use, with a comprehensive range of querying tools and reports. These and the information stored may be modified at any time, subject to users’ access rights.
LineMap will meet the requirements of the Highways England standard TD 26 for the maintenance of markings on trunk roads.
Open systems
LineMap can import map data or highway design proposals from any popular GIS or CAD system. On completion of a design, LineMap has the ability to print professional quality scale drawings, or can export schemes in CAD or GIS formats. These exports may be of the markings alone or include the base mapping.
