MovingOrdersMap
The efficient way to make, manage and communicate speed limits and moving traffic orders
Speed limits, banned turns and other restrictions for moving traffic have never been more important.
- Under DfT Circular 1/06 all authorities need to review their speed limits on classified roads and make necessary changes by 2011.
- Once reliable data is available it can be made public, including on web sites and via ISA devices in cars (pioneered in London using our software).
- And finally there is the Traffic Management Act, offering authorities the prospect of enforcing many of their moving traffic measures.
All these actions require reliable information, efficiently managed by software tailored to the task in hand. MovingOrdersMap is that system
FEATURES
- Order making and schedule production
- Advertising and consultation
- Initial data capture
- Authority-wide speed maps that include the default limits for single and dual carriageways and lit areas
- Maintains road network data
- Determine and record traffic sign locations
- Helps identify gaps, inconsistencies and missing signs
BENEFITS
- Save time by managing traffic orders efficiently
- Provide reliable and accessible current data for all council teams and optionally for public access
- Identifies anomalies and missing signs, helping to avoid costly and embarrassing enforcement problems
- Uses OS and government standard formats for e-GIF compliance and easy data communication
- Easy to access with minimal training
BUILDING UPON PARKMAP
MovingOrdersMap builds upon the strength of ParkMap – the UK’s leading system for managing on-street parking and related traffic orders.
We have also used the experience we gained designing and developing GIS software for the London speed map – an innovative Transport for London project that includes real time in-car speed limit indication and other ISA functions.
AREA-WIDE SPEED MAPS
By combining traffic orders with default speeds for different road types and for lit areas, MovingOrdersMap produces a continuous area-wide map of speed limits on all roads.

MOVINGORDERSMAP – FEATURES IN DETAIL
Comprehensive tool set
MovingOrdersMap provides a comprehensive set of tools and functions tailored to the tasks involved in managing speed limits and other moving traffic orders. In particular, the need to link such orders to the road network is accomplished using the Integrated Transport Network (ITN) layer of MasterMap, which is available to traffic authorities under their Ordnance Survey mapping services agreements.
MovingOrdersMap may be used on its own or integrated with ParkMap or other TraffMap applications, including TraffWeb for viewing data remotely via the Internet or an Intranet.
Working with ParkMap
MovingOrdersMap will be added to your ParkMap’s capability by including a set functionality specifically designed for creating, and managing all types of moving orders. These new tools will work in conjunction with ParkMap standard tools, allowing you to efficiently manage all your traffic orders through one system.
Working stand-alone
MovingOrdersMap can be supplied as an independent product containing all the functionality for moving traffic orders including speed limits, as well as the searching, map handling, printing and management tools common to all TraffMap systems.
Keeping costs down
MovingOrdersMap minimises the work involved in data capture.
- Ordnance Survey ITN data forms the initial road network complete with banned turns, one way streets, width and access restrictions. This data can be used, amended and added to, forming an accurate and up-to-date record of all moving traffic orders in an authority.
- Automated data input and manipulation facilities speed the input of restrictions, the generation of traffic orders and schedules, and the display of the associated signing.
Using OS MasterMap ITN Data (Integrated Transport Network)
- ITN is translated and decoded to form the road network used throughout MovingOrdersMap.
- Details of prohibited turns, restricted access, width limits, etc, can be copied from the ITN network into draft traffic orders, then edited or added to. When a draft order is confirmed the changes are written back to the underlying network.
- Data entry routines allow quick selection or all roads in an area, along a series of links, or enclosed by defined terminal points.
