New signs and symbols in SignPlot 3.2

Buchanan Computing has become the first company to release software for the eagerly awaited 2015 traffic signs regulations.

SignPlot 3.2 includes the many new signs and symbols needed and has procedures to create the new formats of parking plate and roadworks signs. It also provides for the wordings that will soon be permitted, such as a colour or other description of the correct ticket machine to use.

Look: no diagram numbers

Parking plates and other worded regulatory signs are currently defined by the number of the relevant illustration in TSRGD. But in the 2015 regulations, there are no diagram numbers for parking plates. So SignPlot 3.2 has a new ‘wizard’ to guide you through the process of defining any of the wide range of parking signs in much the same way as these options are presented in the new TSRGD. But selecting signs by diagram number remains an option for those who prefer the traditional method.

In the new TSRGD parking plates can be butted together, vertically and horizontally, and have a much wider range of wordings and permutations. SignPlot 3.2 makes it easy to define these signs by picking approved wording and symbols from lists and by stating whether you want another plate attached below or beside. It even shades the text appropriately if you decide to describe the ticket machine by its colour, as will soon be permitted.

Roadworks and lane closures

Temporary signs for lane closures on high speed roads are being made a whole lot simpler, smaller and easier for drivers to understand. The new types of sign are only fleetingly referred to in the new TSRGD but will be covered fully in the new Part 3 of Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8, currently being produced by the Highways Agency. SignPlot 3.2 is the first software to include all the necessary symbols, and it automatically spaces and aligns them.

Structures and bilingual signs

Other enhancements include more automatic translation for bilingual signs for Wales and improvements to the structural design system, SignLoad, that is built into every copy of SignPlot and also available separately.

SignPlot 3.2 is now ready to be downloaded from our User Area by those with current support contracts.
