Parking and orders
With the introduction of civil enforcement, the efficient management of regulatory measures has become a vital function for most highway authorities. Their income, their reputation, road safety, and the good management of scarce street space all depend upon having enforceable controls. Managing this requires a comprehensive record of traffic orders (TROs or TMOs) and the signs and markings that communicate them to road users.
For 20 years Buchanan Computing has been the clear leader in mapping the UK’s on-street parking controls, with ParkMap a byword for best practice and the only commercially available package for this task. Our expertise in tailoring software to the specific needs of those involved with traffic orders and enforcement saves countless hours for hundreds of local authority users. And our software and training services are now joined by expert consultancy, order-making, survey and data services provided by our colleagues in Buchanan Order Management.
ParkMap is unique in linking the legal orders (whether text or map-based) and order-making process to a GIS inventory of the markings and signs that give effect to those measures. It deals efficiently with processes such as amendment orders, revocations and consolidations, minimising data entry work and providing a painless method for keeping the permanent inventory updated. MovingOrdersMap caters in a smilar way for speed limits, banned turns, bus gates, lorry bans and other restrictions affecting the movement of vehicles. ParkMap and MovingOrdersMap link with all other TraffMap systems, but integrate particularly closely with LineMap and SignPlot for creating and showing the correct road marking and sign designs for new and existing restrictions. Information is passed seamlessly beween the systems, creating and storing accurate road marking and sign designs from the traffic order information.
Surveys and Consultancy
Buchanan Order Management are experts in surveying on-street parking and moving traffic signs and markings, recording these in ParkMap and relating these to the traffic orders. They can advise on resolving any differences and on the necessary steps for making totally new orders or converting to the new map-based schedule format.
For recording and managing surveys of on-street parking demand and occupancy, we have a map-based system software system, SurveyMap, developed in conjunction with several London authorities.
